Ontario Power Generation Hires Albert Sweetnam
The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) welcomes this week's announcement that Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has hired Albert Sweetnam as Executive Vice President New Nuclear at Darlington effective January 19, 2009.
"This senior appointment sends a strong signal that Infrastructure Ontario's Request for Proposal process is well underway and that OPG is taking the necessary steps to prepare for setting up its project management team that will deliver the next new nuclear reactors in Ontario," said Murray Elston, President and CEO of the Canadian Nuclear Association. "The nuclear industry is looking forward to the Government of Ontario's announcement on which vendor will be selected in Ontario so the industry can get on with the job of providing clean, reliable and affordable electricity to Ontarians," said Mr. Elston.
Mr. Sweetnam, a former executive of SNC Lavalin Ltd brings extensive, multi-billion-dollar project experience and success in delivering large construction projects in Ontario, Canada and internationally. "This is particularly important for Canada's nuclear industry as other provinces such as New Brunswick, Alberta and Saskatchewan are considering new nuclear construction and will be looking to Ontario as they move closer to making decisions," says Mr. Elston.
The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is a non-profit organization established in 1960 to represent the nuclear industry in Canada and promote the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. The CNA has about 90 members including power utilities, labour unions, manufacturers, uranium mining and fuel processing companies, engineering companies, universities, and associations.
