JUSTICE of Appeal Mr. Charles Ramson, S.C., was yesterday sworn in by
President Bharrat Jagdeo as Guyana's new Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs. Returning for his second stint as AG, Mr. Ramson's appointment follows the resignation of previous Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mr. Doodnauth Singh S.C., last month. Singh resigned at the end of January after serving as Attorney General since 2001.
Ramson, who brings a wealth of experience to the table having served previously in the same position, took his Oath of Office at the Presidential Secretariat in Georgetown before
several government officials, his proud family members including his wife Mrs. Leila Ramson and son, Charles Ramson, Jr. and members of the media.
The new Minister pledged to honour, uphold and preserve the Constitution of
Cooperative Republic of Guyana, to serve as the Attorney General and Minister of
Legal Affairs and to act fairly and justly in duties in his ministerial capacity.
Prior to his appointment, Ramson was appointed Court of Appeal Judge early last year and served
in several positions including member of the Disciplined Forces Commission. In an invited comment, shortly after taking the Oath of Office, on his decision to
serve once again as Attorney General, Ramson said:
"Whenever you are called to serve your country, you need to respond positively." (Priya Nauth)
